Personal History
EMPLOYMENT/WORK HISTORY.
My career began in 1967 when after leaving school I worked in a Photographic processing lab in Birmingham as a printer and photo copier whilst commencing part time day release study at The School of Photography, College of Art, Birmingham. I studied for a total of four years day release to obtain my City & Guilds 344 and AIIP Diplomas in Industrial and Commercial Photography.
During this time I changed my place of employment and accepted the post of Head Photographer, in charge of the Photographic and Archiving dept at The Assay Office in Birmingham This work gave me experience in all photographic formats up to 5 x 4 plus some micro/macro work. I stayed in this position until being made redundant in 1981.
During this time I also worked evenings and weekends as a Social/PR photographer for Simon Livingstone studios in the city covering a wide spectrum of social/conference/portrait/presentation situations. This extra work gave me 4 years valuable experience in a working Photographic Location and Studio environment.
In 1981 after being made redundant I became self-employed as a Commercial/Industrial and Advertising Photographer and operated a Photographic Studio/Marketing Agency in Birmingham City Centre with up to 3 staff members until 1992. During this time we built up a good client base including many multi national companies like MEB, Rover, Ginsters, British Gas, Ratners, Central Television, British Jeweller Magazine, Halfords, Titanium International and many more.
In 1999 I became a Marketing Consultant and Project Manager for Business Link at the Chamber of Commerce helping local companies to receive funding for Marketing/ Design Projects.
In recent years I have joined the digital revolution and now shoot almost exclusively on a Nikon D2Xs, using a Power book G4 Laptop on Location and Camera Control Pro/Picture Project software. I am also experienced in using Adobe Photoshop for processing, manipulating and combining images. I recently completed my third location shoot in Russia and shot a 100 page Clock, watch & Giftware catalogue and a Calendar using this format. In November 2007 I organised and shot the 2008 Seoul Nasau Calendar.
